Definition 1a4x3v
A bet such that a player uses two separate motions to make a bet. In almost all casinos, and many poker lounges, string bets are illegal as they can give the bettor information on how effective they’re bet was by judging their opponents and they can increase the bet based on this information. For this reason, it is best to either announce a bet/raise/call (since verbal actions are binding in turn) or make sure the bet is one fluid motion.
Example 3i2j60
I bet 300 and villain put 300 in the middle, but then went back and grabbed more chips for a raise. Since his first action could have been interpreted as a call and his raise was in two separate actions, this was a string bet.
